This is a type G penannular brooch, based on one from a possible Anglo-Saxon burial in Wooler, Northumbria.

It dates from the 5th or 6th century, and has a ribbed hoop, with sub-rectangular terminals that have faceted corners. The terminals are decorated with a deeply engraved ring and dot design.

We have filled the ring of the terminal design with red enamel, as red enamel was common on brooches and other metalwork of this period, although the original doesn't show any sign of having been enamelled. We thought it enhanced the finished look of the brooch. if you would prefer it without the enamel, please get in touch.

The brooch is hand cast in tin-bronze, and the pin is hand forged from a bar of the same tin-bronze.

Hoop width: 4.4 cm.
