Urquhart Castle Bronze Pin
This hand cast pin is based on a find from Urquhart Castle. It was found during works on the castle, which stands on a promontory on the North side of Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland. The pin is classified as a Frustrum headed pin, which has trapezoidal faces, and a rectangular horizontal cross section. The top face has two nicks in each edge as decoration, giving a toothed appearance to the head. It is thought to date to the 8th or 9th century.
It can be used as a clothing pin, or short hair pin.
This piece is hand cast in tin bronze, using a bone master, and following the method used to cast the original. The finishing and polishing is done entirely by hand, so there may be some differences in the finished item. We endeavour to keep them in stock, however if you require this in less than 30 days, please email to check availability.
