This bracelet is a reproduction of a type that is known from the Viking-age. While many of the ring money bracelets were plain silver, earlier examples, such as a couple from the Skaill hoard, were stamped with the same kind of designs found on the broad-band Hiberno-Norse arm-rings. This design is based on the stamped variety.

They date from the 10th century, when silver arm-rings such as this were used as bullion that could be used to buy things, hence the name, ring money. They were usually around 25g in weight, which was an ounce of silver in the Viking Age. Although, due to the use of balance scales that weren't very accurate, they were rarely exactly this weight. That being said, ours are usually a little heavier than the originals, at just under 30g.

These bracelets are hand shaped from 925 sterling silver, using the same techniques as those used to make the original finds, and hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office. Due to this, while we try to keep them in stock, if you require one within 30 days please email to check availability.

Diameter: 82mm Ring internal length: 178mm Gap: 31mm

These bracelets are designed to be worn loose. Adjust once to fit, then avoid bending.
