This pewter penannular brooch is based on one from the St. Ninians Isle hoard from Scotland, and dates from the 8th century. The terminals of this brooch feature a knotwork roundel with a glass cabochon in the centre. Around these are three scrolled projections, each with a setting for a further glass cabochon. we set these with contrasting coloured cabochons, in either green and red, or red and blue. There is a further setting on the band that is coloured to match the centre cabochon on the terminals.
This brooch is made of pewter and is suitable for fastening a wool cloak. The brooch is 71mm across the ring, and the pin is 112mm long. We recommend making sure that you use the same holes to fasten your cloak every time you pin it, as the pin is quite thick.
