One Inch Coppergate Openwork Vinescroll Strap End

This strap end is based on a find from 16-22 Coppergate, York. It has an openwork vine-scroll design, which is somewhat degraded from other examples of the style. To cover this, the piece has been further decorated with a ring and dot design. The date for this strap end is in the 10th century, during which time the vine scroll was replaced by the later acanthus leaf motif.
