One Inch Cambridgeshire Openwork Angel Strap End

This strap end is based on one found in Ipswich and dates from the late 10th century. The openwork design features a winged creature, which we have reconstructed as a mermaid, or more likely, given its Saxon provenance, an angel. Another example of this design found in Ipswich showed similar ware on the pattern, and also had ring and dot designs applied to the top.

This strap end is cast in lead free pewter, which is fairly soft, so care is required when attaching it to leather. See our ready made belt section if you want us to do that for you. If intended for reenactment use, we recommend that you check with your group authenticity rules before purchasing.
