Half Inch York Buckle with Plate and Iron Tongue

This buckle is based on one found in York. The original was cast in lead, and while this may mean that it was a pattern intended for use in casting copper alloy buckles, it could just as easily have been intended for use as a buckle itself. The buckle plate has been interpreted to match the buckle. The style of the buckle suggests a date in the late 9th, or early 10th century. The tongue is made of iron, and hammered to a D section.

This buckle and plate is cast in lead free pewter, which is fairly soft, so care is required when attaching it to leather. See our ready made belt section if you want us to do that for you.
