Bronze Golspie Pictish Pin

Golspie Pictish Pin.

This bronze pin is based on one found at Golspie in 1974. The original pin was bent and broken, so we have reconstructed the length for use as a clothes fastening pin. The head of the pin represents a human face, and the design is thought to date to the 7th or 8th century. The design is unique in Pictish art of this period, and was originally gilded.

We are casting each one of these pins using a solid master model carved in bone, and the same method used for casting the originals that has been meticulously reconstructed using archaeological evidence from the Viking Age, so each one will have small differences due to the casting process.
