This bracelet is a reproduction of a type that is common in finds of Viking-age silver from Scotland. Examples are known from the Tarbat Hoard (see image), the Skaill Hoard, and the Port Glasgow hoard, as well as many others.

They date from the 10th century, when silver arm-rings such as this were used as bullion that could be used to buy things, hence the name, ring money. They were usually around 25g in weight, which was an ounce of silver in the Viking Age. Although, due to the use of balance scales that weren't very accurate, they were rarely exactly this weight. That being said, ours are usually a little heavier than the originals, at around 30g.

These bracelets are hand shaped from 925 sterling silver, using the same techniques as those used to make the original finds, and hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office. Due to this, we try to keep them in stock, but if you require one within 30 days please email to check availability.

Diameter: 80mm Ring internal length: 172mm Gap: 30mm

This bracelet is designed to be worn loose. Adjust once to fit then avoid bending.
