By adding eight legs to the design it is clear that this might not work as well as the writers of the Edda, or the skalds of the oral traditions before them, thought it did. Of course, given that they date from the 12th century, these pieces are rather later than we might expect for a representation of this type of warrior. By adding eight legs to the design it is clear that this might not work as well as the writers of the Edda, or the skalds of the oral traditions before them, thought it did.
